“BTS’ Founder Bang Si-hyuk aka “Hitman” Bang is turning 49 today 9th August 2022. #BangPDDay is currently trending as fans wish the HYBE chairman a happy birthday. Bang Si-hyuk is a South Korean lyricist, composer, producer, and record executive. He is the founder of Big Hit Music and Hybe Corporation, and chairman of the latter. One of the fifty richest people in South Korea according to Forbes Asia, Bang is the only billionaire in the South Korean entertainment industry.
In 2005, Bang left JYP Entertainment and founded his own company, Big Hit Entertainment, where he continued to write, compose and produce for Big Hit artists he co-wrote six songs on BTS’ critically acclaimed Wings (2016) album. The success of Wings garnered Bang the Best Producer Award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards and the Songwriter Award at the Melon Music Awards that year. In June 2018, he was named one of Variety’s International Music Leaders due to BTS’ achievements.
Big Hit Music formerly Big Hit Entertainment) is a South Korean music label established in 2005 by Bang Si-hyuk. It was re-branded and re-structured into Big Hit Music, and independent label under Hybe Corporation (formerly Big Hit Entertainment Co. Ltd.,) and part of Hybe Labels on March 2021.As of date, the label is home to soloist Lee Hyun, and boy groups BTS and Tomorrow X Together. It previously managed soloist Lim Jeong-hee, and groups 8Eight, 2AM, and co-managed Glam.
Bang Si Hyuk was featured on the cover of the April 2022 issue of Time magazine, together with BTS, following the release of the outlet’s annual list of the 100 Most Influential Companies in March—Hybe was included on the list for a second consecutive year and topped the “Leaders” category.
Later that month, he received an honorary doctorate in Business from Seoul National University (SNU)—he is the first figure in the entertainment industry to be awarded such—in recognition of his “contribution to the development and innovation of the nation’s cultural and entertainment industry” and for his “role in turning K-pop into a global pop music culture”.
