J-Hope’s track “1 Verse” is celebrated in its 5th year anniveasery since its release on 21st December 2015. To celebrate this milestone, lets us reminisce on J-Hope as a valuable member of BTS.
J-Hope is a rapper, dancer, songwriter, and record producer and has written over 100 songs, including music for his career as a solo musician, band member, and songs for other performers. His debut mixtape Hope World (2018) charted in ten countries worldwide, debuting atop the Billboard World Albums chart and peaking at number 30 on the Billboard 200, the highest peak by a Korean soloist at the time and he is a credited writer on all seven tracks.
J-Hope later released his second solo work in September 2019 “Chicken Noodle Soup” featuring American singer Becky G. and performed in three languages: Korean, English, and Spanish. The song peaked at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first time a member of BTS has appeared on the chart as a soloist. “Chicken Noodle Soup” is currently #1 in 100 Countries on iTunes and has surpassed 200 million views on YouTube.
J-Hope serves as one of the primary songwriters in BTS and he appears as a credited writer on every album released by the group since their debut in 2013. J-Hope together with BTS rappers RM and Suga, collaborated on to the track “Ddaeng”, produced by Suga and Korean record producer Jang Yi-jeong, inspired by traditional Korean instrumentals. The rapline trio have also performed “Tear, ” “UGH” and “Cyphers I to IV.”
J-Hope has also co-writen the song “Otsukare” with Suga under their name “SoPe (Suga & J-Hope). J-Hope composed much of the melody for the 2016 ballad “Awake”, performed by BTS vocalist Jin as his first solo song. J-hope is the lead dancer in BTS and since he has a great background in dancing, he usually takes very few minutes to learn choregraphies and teaches the rest of the members while contributing his own styles to the choreo.
The rapper is a hard worker who is a stickler for details and perfection. BTS would be incomplete without J-Hope, members have said that countless times showing how much they love and respect their fellow band member.
